Where we all take part in forest planning
Did you know that the Forest Service has been working on an online, interactive map viewer to show allowed public motorized use on system roads and trails??
Yes, it's true. It's called the Interactive Travel Map. My colleagues at Geospatial Service and Technology Center (GSTC) have been developing this for a while now.
Basically, it takes the information from each unit's Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) and displays it in a browser window. The user can pan, zoom, turn layers on and off, and make a few simple queries.
It's scheduled to go live sometime in January 2012.
