June 2014 Public Workshops

The U.S. Forest Service will host a series of public workshops for forest plan revisions on the Sierra, Sequoia and Inyo National Forests. These workshops follow those the Forest Service hosted in January. At those workshops, the public provided feedback on the Forest Service’s preliminary Need to Change, Draft Roles and Contributions, and example Desired Conditions. The U.S. Forest Service’s Pacific Southwest Region has released the final assessments for the Sierra, Sequoia and Inyo National Forests, the Bio-regional assessment, and a preliminary Need to Change document. Sierra Cascades Dialog Session #11 at Lions Gate Hotel and Inyo Forest Supervisor’s Office

This Dialog will focus on the issues and complexities surrounding land management and wildland fire; as well as fire’s role in ecological resilience. Speakers will share the benefits, challenges, constraints and opportunities fire presents as a land management tool.  Participants will explore the impacts of wildland fire on ecological and community resiliency, and the economic, social and cultural effects of large fires such as the Rim Fire.  See More
