I would think that our preparedness should be for making the forest prepared for the greatest magnitude event.  Buildings need to be treated.  So, the forest must be treated to avoid the greatest magnitude event.  It is not enough to limb up & thin trees along road and access corridors. (Though this should be done)

I have been watching fires this year from near and far. I was at the Aspen fire and saw intense crown fire to mosaic surface fire. This fire is different. Question this makes me think of...is treating around the building enough? Is wearing a seat belt enough to keep you completely safe in a crash? do we need to prepare for this magnitude of a fire?
