Where we all take part in forest planning
Currently, all OurForestPlace members can create groups. However, with this freedom to create groups comes the responsibility to be a good group steward. The "group creator" is responsible for managing group membership and creating a professional work environment. Group creators should monitor their group activities closely, and may need to organize discussion topics and make efforts to keep the group members engaged. Groups are great, but they require committment by the creator and usually by a core group of active participants.
Groups are a great way to meet other members on OurForestPlace, and they can provide excellent work spaces for teams or for those collaborating on a project or document. You can invite anyone to join your group, even people who haven't joined OurForestPlace yet!
To create a group, go to the Groups tab and click the link at the top right of the page to "Add a group." Next, fill in information about your group. Give your group a descriptive name and be sure to upload a group image that's roughly square in size. (Try to make the image relavant to the Group topic.) Fill out a description for your group; members will see this description when looking for groups to join, so make sure it accurately describes the group's purpose.
In the right side of the page, choose which features your group will have. You can add a comment wall, discussion forum, text box, and RSS reader to your group.
Don't forget to choose the privacy settings for your group! You can either allow anyone to join the group, or you can choose to moderate membership. If you choose to moderate membership, new members will have to apply to join and you'll be able to review their request before they can join or enter the group. You can also allow group members to invite other people to join, and you can allow non-members to request membership. If you turn off both of these options, the group will be invite-only - and you'll be the only one who can send invites to join the group. Once you create your group, the privacy cannot be changed, so pick carefully!
Finally, choose whether or not members of your group can send broadcast messages to the whole group. Click "Add Group" and your group will be added to the Ning Network!
