I would be happy to arrange a meeting to discuss the new water quality management handbook with volunteers and user groups.  We can discuss locations and dates after the holidays.

Perhaps I should have used the word "rather" in place of "other" as that would have changed context.

I agree there are groups planing activities and developing grant applications that need answers. After all, I spent over an hour on the phone day with two EAs that are not adopt-a-trail activities and need answers to move ahead with grants and fund raising planning. Yes, both have a direct nexus to water. And, I do represent groups that apply for annual permits and need answers for advance planning to meet other deadlines.

It is not a matter of addressing one before the other in a priority order. It is a matter of crafting a "learning session" that has application to a broader base than just adopt-a-trail.

I fully understand that FS man hours are a commodity in high demand. To conserve effort, (man hours and fundung) it is appropriate to craft a learning session that addresses the core issue in a comprehensive manner.

First, we need to answer questions for the people doing on the ground volunteer work. They're wanting answers to plan their activities and to apply for grants for the next year.

A second - and good - question is the broader implications. There are groups that apply for permits every year for events held on forested lands.

Any learning session should address the broader implications other than just adopt-a-trail.  The WQMH applies to permitted activities and those are not necessarily only adopt-a-trail activities.

Hi water quality folks.  Here's a great question from Amy Granat.  Can you address it when you have a minute? "... I do have a question about water issues - do you think it would be possible to convene a "learning session" for groups that work on trails in the forest to explain the new Water Quality Management Handbook, and how it relates to adopt-a-trail work?"

Here's the email address for water quality.  This goes directly to the Forest Service folks who are coordinating this effort.  Thanks, Barry, for setting this up!
